Collections Technician (Curator/Archivist I) - The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, Norman, OK

The Collections Technician provides technical assistance for the museum's collections by managing the integrated pest management program (IPM), monitoring museum collection environments, and managing the dermestid facility for research quality skeletal preparations in accordance with accepted museum practices and standards for collections care.

 

Job functions include the operation and maintenance of the treatment facility for incoming objects, the operation and management of the dermestid facility, monitoring and identifying pests, preparing reports, and taking appropriate treatment and preventative actions. Additional functions include implementing and monitoring approved museum policies and procedures, maintaining all associated databases, and conducting IPM training to current and incoming staff, volunteers, and students. The Collections Technician is expected to participate in service to the museum, museum community, university, and/or professional organizations at the local, state, regional, and national level.

 

Required qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in museum studies, zoology, or other museum-related discipline OR an equivalent combination of education/job-related experience.

 

Other preferred qualifications include strong organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to work independently and as a team member, and the ability to speak to small groups.

Assistant Professor of Marine Biology - University of Alaska Southeast

 

The University of Alaska Southeast is seeking a qualified individual for a tenure-track position in the Department of Natural Sciences to begin Fall 2011. This position will support undergraduate degree programs in Health Sciences, Biology, and Marine Biology. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a biology related discipline. The successful applicant will share responsibilities for teaching introductory health science courses, and upper division courses in marine mammalogy. Faculty at UAS are expected to establish an externally funded research program that includes undergraduate students. We are seeking applicants with expertise in a field that complements the research areas of the current faculty in Biology. Assistantship - Sherman's Fox Squirrel Agency, University of Florida, Gainesville

 

I have an opening for one PhD student or an exceptional MS student at the University of Florida (Gainesville) to conduct research in central Florida on Sherman's fox squirrel starting in the fall semester of 2010.  Sherman's fox squirrel is considered a species of concern in Florida.  This research project will consider, but is not limited to, species distribution, habitat associations, response to forest management practices, competition with gray squirrels, and response to urbanization and fragmentation.  Additionally, the student will be expected to expand this study to accommodate their interests.  A stipend, ($16,000) insurance, and a tuition waiver will be provided for 4 years.
