Distribution

South central Oregon to northern Baja California and Mexico.

Notes

Makes temporary foraging tunnels just below the soil surface, leaving a visible ridge in the soil. Feeds mainly on earthworms. Favors rich damp soils with little vegetation; avoids heavy clay or stony soils. Lighter grey pelage.
